Weichai Power's Subsidiary Baudouin Enters OpenAI's "Stargate" Data Center Core Supply Chain

Weichai Power's subsidiary, Baudouin, has quietly entered the core supply chain of OpenAI's "Stargate" data center. This marks the first time a Chinese high-end engine has obtained the certification of a US hyperscale data center operator, and also signifies a shift in Weichai's investment strategy from "heavy truck cyclical stocks" to "AI computing power + high-end supporting".

OpenAI's flagship data center, located in Abilene, Texas, is one of the most watched AI infrastructure projects globally. According to local US media reports, the project's environmental impact assessment documents reveal a key detail: 28 Baudouin emergency generators are included as backup power equipment.

These 28 Baudouin units, each with a power output of 2.8 MW, provide a total backup power capacity of approximately 78 MW, accounting for 46% of the data center's approved backup power fleet (170 MW). They are complemented by 34 Caterpillar units to form a complete backup power system.

Baudouin, a French high-end engine brand acquired by Weichai in 2009, has a century-old history and covers multiple fields such as marine, power generation, and industry. In the field of AI data center power supply, Baudouin has formed a complete product matrix:

Diesel generator sets: As the mainstream backup power configuration for data centers, they are included in the "Stargate" project's supporting facilities;

Gas generator sets: Used in areas with abundant natural gas resources, forming a cost advantage;

Fuel cell power generation: As an emerging direction, Weichai has completed layout and investment to meet the future upgrade needs of data centers.

This "full-technology route" coverage capability is rare among global engine manufacturers, and it is also the core reason why OpenAI chooses to cooperate with Weichai. More importantly, Baudouin has successfully completed the transition from European standards to American standards, meeting the stricter emission and reliability requirements of US data centers.

While Caterpillar has obvious advantages in brand recognition, its production cycle is long, and Baudouin's fast delivery and stable quality have become a key differentiator in Weichai's competition for high-end data center projects.
